Fans of the Harry Potter franchise have something to look forward to as Max, the streaming service formerly known as HBO Max, has announced a live-action TV series based on the seven books by JK Rowling. The series will feature a new cast and a decade-long storyline that will stay faithful to the original books. Rowling will also serve as an executive producer alongside David Heyman, who produced the eight Harry Potter movies.

However, not everyone is happy with Rowling’s involvement, as the author has faced backlash for her controversial views on transgender issues. Many fans and celebrities have criticized Rowling for her comments that they perceive as transphobic and harmful to the transgender community. Some have even called for a boycott of the series or the removal of Rowling from the project.

Max’s content head Casey Bloys defended Rowling’s role, saying that her insights will be helpful and that the priority is what’s on screen. He also said that the Harry Potter story is positive about love and acceptance, and that the streaming service is comfortable being in the Potter business.

The Harry Potter TV series is expected to launch in 2024 on Max, which will also host the original movies and the Fantastic Beasts spin-off films.
