A bank employee in Louisville, Kentucky, live-streamed his shooting rampage that left five people dead and eight others injured on Monday morning. The shooter, who was identified as Connor Sturgeon, 25, used a rifle to open fire at his colleagues and customers at the Old National Bank near Slugger Field. He was killed by police who responded within minutes to the scene.

The shooting was broadcast live on Instagram, but the video was quickly removed by Meta, the parent company of the social media platform. Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg called the attack “an evil act of targeted violence” and said the city was in shock and mourning.

Among the victims were four bank employees, including Thomas Elliott, 63, a senior vice president and a close friend of Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear. The governor said he was heartbroken by the loss of his friend and mentor, who helped him build his law career and become governor.

The shooting was the 15th mass killing in the U.S. this year in which four or more victims were killed, according to a database compiled by USA TODAY, Associated Press, and Northeastern University. It was also the fourth public shooting, following attacks at a grocery store in Colorado, a spa in Georgia, and an office building in California.

President Joe Biden issued a statement expressing his grief and outrage over the shooting and called for urgent action to address the epidemic of gun violence in the country. He said he spoke with Beshear and Greenberg and offered them his full support.
