Elizabeth Holmes, the founder of the failed blood-testing startup Theranos, has been denied her request to remain free while she appeals her conviction for fraud. A judge ruled that Holmes must report to prison on April 27, 2023, and cast doubt on her chances of winning her appeal. Holmes was sentenced to more than 11 years in prison last November after she was found guilty of defrauding investors and patients with false claims about her technology. Holmes had sought to delay her prison term after giving birth to her second child. Holmes’ ex-boyfriend and former Theranos COO, Sunny Balwani, who was also convicted of fraud, must surrender to prison on April 20.
