The Roman politician and general Mark Antony (14 January 83 BC-01 August 30 BC) was the main opponent of Augustus for the succession to the power of Julius Caesar. He was defeated by Augustus in the last of the civil wars that destroyed the Roman Republic.

Marcus Antonius or Mark Antony was born on 14 January 83 BC in Rome, Roman Republic (now Italy). He was related to Julius Caesar by his mother's side and served under Caesar in Gaul from 53 BC to 50 BC. In 49 BC, he moves to Rome to become a tribune. In 42 BC, Mark Antony and Augustus defeated the army of Marcus Brutus at the Battle of Philippi. In 31 BC, Augustus defeated Mark Antony at the Battle of Actium and forced him to flee to Alexandria in Egypt. When Augustus's army surrounded Alexandria, Mark Antony committed suicide by falling on his sword on 01 August 30 BC.
