Mother Teresa born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu (26 August 1910 – 05 September 1997) was an ethnic Albanian, Indian Roman Catholic nun and activist who became the Mother of the sick, poor as well as impoverished. She fought her whole life to serve the poor and destitute. Mother Teresa established a hospice; center for the blind, aged, and disabled. She was awarded Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 for her humanitarian work and Bharat Ratna in 1980.

Early Life & Childhood: Mother Teresa was born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu on 26 August 1910 in Skopje, Kosovo Vilayet, Ottoman Empire, the current capital of the Republic of Macedonia. At the age of five, she received her first communion. In 1919, she lost her father. After her father's died, Mother Teresa was close to her mother who was a pious and compassionate woman. After that, she has admitted to a convent-run primary school and then a state-run secondary school. In 1928, she decided to become a nun and move to Ireland joining the Loretto Abbey, Dublin was trained for one year and take the name of sister Teresa. In 1929, Mother Teresa reached Calcutta, India, and becomes a teacher at St. Mary's High School. On May 24, 1937, she took her final vows as a nun to a life of poverty, chastity, and obedience. In 1944, she became principal of St. Mary's High School. In 1948, Mother Teresa transferred her citizenship from Yugoslavia to India. After that, she decided to work alone in the slums and left the convent, and received medical training in Paris.

Personal Life & Family: Mother Teresa's father; Nikollë Bojaxhiu was a famous merchant and an entrepreneur. Her mother; Dranafile Bojaxhiu was a pious and compassionate woman. She had two siblings: Lazar Bojaxhiu, and Aga Bojaxhiu. Mother Teresa never married. All Catholic nuns consider themselves married to God.

Later Life & Death: In 1950, Mother Teresa founded the Missionaries of Charity. In 1958, she spread her work outside of Calcutta. In 1971, she received the Pope John XXIII Peace Prize. In 1979, Mother Teresa was awarded Nobel Prize in Peace for her work with the destitute and dying. In 1980, she was awarded Bharat Ratna. In 1983, Suffered a first-time heart attack while visiting Pope John Paul II. In 1992, Mother Teresa attended the hospital in La Jolla, California for treatment of pneumonia and congestive heart failure. In 1997, She resigned as the head of her order and was succeeded by Sister Nirmala. Mother Teresa died of a massive heart attack on 05 September 1997 in Calcutta, India. She was buried at Mother House Convent, Calcutta, India.
