Publius Vergilius Maro, popularly known as Virgil (15 October 70 BC-21
September 19 BC) is considered one of the greatest ancient Roman
poets of the Augustan period. He is best known for his epic, the Aeneid which had written following the literary model of Homer's epic poems Iliad and Odyssey.
Early Life & Childhood: Virgil was born on 15 October 70 BC in a small village in Andes, Italy.
First, he attended school at Cremona then Milan. In 53 BC, he moved to
Rome, where he studied mathematics, medicine and rhetoric. In 49 BC, he
moved to Naples to complete his study. After completing his study,
Virgil returned to his family's farm to spend his time in study and
writing and to be close to his parents.
Personal Life: Virgil's father was either a potter or a labourer. His father (name unknown)
was working for a certain Magius (Virgil's Grandfather). Magius allow
him to marry his daughter, Magia (who is Virgil's Mother). Virgil never
married.
Later Life & Death: Virgil was a famous roman poet during his lifetime and he had friends in high places, notably the emperor Caesar Augustus. In 42 BC, he began writing his first work Eclogues
which he completed and published in ca. 37 BC. Then he started working
for Georgics. Probably in 29 BC, Virgil started composing his most
famous work The Aeneid pressed by Augustus. He died on 21 September 19 BC. Virgil was buried near Naples but there are doubts about the position of his tomb.
